KRLM Story: Special Kitty Named Raj

Special Kitty Named RAJ

"About six months back, I was walking around CCSPCA high-kill shelter and was looking at the cats tagged to be put down. Since our rescue is known at all the shelters, we pull from those cats pending to be put down and are already tagged.

I noticed this big white boy tagged to be put down. He was sick with URI and could hardly see out of his eyes because the URI infection had begun set into his eyes. I asked if our rescue could pull him. I was asked by staff if I really wanted this kitty, “Paula, he is pretty sick with URI.” Nope, I wanted to pull him and give him a chance. The shelter kept telling me that he acted feral when they tried to touch or feed him. Nope, I decided, our rescue did not feel the same about their opinion of him..."

KRLM Story: Juliette & Butterfly Kisses

"Two very lucky girls were adopted from our rescue. They will be both living together with a doctor in Laguna Beach, California, and they will get to look out at the beach in their forever home together. What lucky girls these two kitties are!

Our rescue was contacted by Tay, a doctor in the Laguna Beach area. Her reason for contacting our rescue was the result of a very shocking revelation to everyone at our rescue. She had been trying to adopt a cat in the Laguna Beach area for some time now. Always running into dead ends. We were informed that there is a policy there that if you are sixty years or older you can’t adopt an animal. Wow! Our rescue feels very different about that policy (having a Senior-To-Senior program), and we would rather adopt to an older person without question. Keep in mind, Tay is a doctor, and most of her family is in the medical field of some type, and how lucky would a kitty be in getting adopted into that lifestyle. Tay isn’t a first-time adopter of a cat, as her last cat lived to be twenty years old. We were very honored that Tay wanted to adopt a kitty..."   READ MORE:  CLICK HERE

KRLM Story: Andy, Katy & Mike

Andy

Katie & Mike

"Feral Paws is known to all the shelters in California, we pull cats from them. When we come into a shelter, we walk the kennels—not looking for the perfect, pretty, healthy kitties—we are looking for the ones that have been marked to be put down, or have a medical issue, or are just not perfect. We don’t judge if they are friendly, old, young, or feral, because it’s our goal to give the ones that won’t make it out of the shelter a second chance to have a safe and loving forever home.

What makes it possible for our rescue to pull these types of kitties from the kill shelters? It is our amazing vet Dr. LeRoy LeBeuf of Kings Canyon Veterinary Foundation in Fresno. He isn’t just our rescue vet, but a board member as well. Dr. LeBeuf will go that extra mile to help the cats we pull from high-kill shelters. He has never once said a cat needs to be put down without trying to do what he can to help fix the problem the cat is having.

For example, Andy, who was rescued from CCSPCA. Both of his front legs were crushed because a brick wall fell on them..."  READ MORE:  CLICK HERE

KRLM Story: Buttons

Buttons!
"Buttons was surrendered to CCSPCA, a high kill shelter, with the request from the surrendering owner that the cat be euthanized for health reasons! Buttons is a male cat, six years old, who was adopted by the past owner from the CCSPCA Shelter. He is a beautiful Manx (a breed born without a tail), with long hair, who loves dogs and other cats. He has the sweetest personality, and is a great lap cat who is very vocal when around people.

The CCSPCA Rescue Coordinator called Feral Paws prior to him being assigned out to be euthanized. The Rescue Coordinator explained that the request to have Buttons euthanized was due to..."   READ MORE:  CLICK HERE

KRLM Story: All About Bob!

All About Bob!

"When Bob was brought to the shelter, and as soon as the staff saw him and how loving and friendly he was, not to mention being a big cat that wouldn’t really be comfortable in a kennel, they allowed him to walk around freely. The staff said that Bob made the rounds of the cattery daily with them, and soon became a bit of a distraction with shelter staff wanting to love on him, and he was certainly demanding the attention and getting it. So, our rescue was contacted..."

KRLM Story: Lucy With a Happy Ending

LUCYby Paula Hunsaker

Lucy With A Happy Ending!
"Lucy is a Maine Coon cat that came to our Rescue as an owner surrender. Lucy’s owner passed away several months back, and Lucy was still living in the home alone. The daughter of the owner was dealing with the closing of her mother’s estate. When the estate was almost closed, the daughter contacted our Rescue about Lucy being surrendered to us. The daughter has dogs and they don’t like cats, so Lucy going to her home was out of the question. As usually happens when an owner passes, cats like Lucy can become withdrawn and shy. Also, the daughter explained that Lucy being surrendered to a kill shelter would for sure be the death of this wonderful cat."

KRLM story: Patty-Cake!

Patty-Cake
by Paula Hunsaker

"I received a call from a lady wanting to adopt a cat, and she explained it was to keep her sister’s seventeen-year-old cat company. She said that her sister had passed away and the cat is her only last link to her sister. While her sister was very ill, her cat was constantly at her side. But now her cat is grieving, and she felt that maybe another older cat will help with this sadness.

When she called, I explained that we do adoptions by appointments. She explained that she felt the need for another cat as a companion for her sister’s cat was very urgent. I felt empathy for her and told her..."   READ MORE:  CLICK HERE

KRLM Story: Samson...

SAMSON

by Lupe Gore

"This month I am going back in time seven years when my relationship with Feral Paws Rescue began, in February 2012. The first cat I got from the Rescue was a beautiful calico named Caleigh, and it went on from there. Each time Feral Paws Rescue would post on Facebook a black cat in need of saving from a kill-shelter, I inquired to see if they could pull him or her. In May 2012, one such post really got my attention. The picture was of a gorgeous, big, medium-haired tuxedo named Samson. Samson was at least three years old and had been picked up as a stray and taken to the Los Angeles County shelter in Lancaster...."  READ MORE:  CLICK HERE

KRLM Story: 3 Lives Saved...

THREE LIVES SAVED
by Lupe Gore

"Pumpkin is a beautiful, large, seven-year old orange and white cat who Feral Paws Rescue saved from the CCSPCA (Fresno) over two years ago. She had been surrendered to the CCSPCA after the death of her human owner. She was at the main rescue site for a while and acclimated to life there, when a call came from a senior citizen who was looking for a cat to share her small apartment. As part of the Rescue’s Senior-to-Senior program, Pumpkin was placed..."

"Also in January 2019, Feral Paws Rescue was contacted by a private shelter (SGVHS) in Los Angeles County regarding two beautiful cats who had been there since May 2018. Dyna is a three-year-old female, and Soft Tail is a six-year-old male. Both were found wandering the streets, so it is unclear if they had a home and were let outside, or if they had been abandoned. They both have medium-length fur, are white with brown and grey markings, and look like they could be related to each other. Neither Dyna nor Soft Tail got..."

KRLM: Traces of Love

Traces of Love

by Lupe Gore

"In early 2017, Feral Paws Rescue received a call from the CCSPCA (Fresno) asking if they would help with a cat who had a very bad injury that had caused tremendous swelling to his face. The shelter had already labeled this cat as “feral” since he didn’t want to have anything to do with the humans there. It was no wonder, since it was later determined he had been badly beaten.

This handsome tabby and white cat was approximately three years old, and was given the name Trace, or Trace-Trace. Feral Paws Rescue didn’t know much else about him, if he had ever had a home or not. All they knew was..."  READ MORE:  CLICK HERE
