Fire Tragedy

On Friday morning, May 29, 2015 at 5am a fire started at Felines First Rescue in Oregon. Paula Hunsaker, CEO/Founder of Feral Paws Rescue was contacted at 6:02am by Karmen Price of FFR. We were informed about the fire at Jesse Lockwood’s home (she is the founder of FFR).

We were informed that there were 9 cats that perished in the fire. Seven of these cats were from a recent transport to FFR from Feral Paws Rescue Group to find new homes in the Oregon area. All cats were in a holding area where the fire started. The cause is unknown at this time, and is an ongoing investigation.

Right now we are unsure of how many of the FPRG 7 cats actually are dead. Currently the following kitties perished in the fire: Shilo, Lady, Mazzey, (Lady & Mazzey bonded siblings), and Cali Delta. Their little bodies have been taken to Dignified Pets in Oregon for cremation and will be returned to our rescue for their final resting place.

Our rescue is working with FFR in trying to understand what went wrong. We have been told that the cats were allowed to roam free inside the building during nighttime hours. We were told that the windows blew out and we can only pray that maybe someone made it out. There are three we can't account for at this time. I won't give up hope or prayers until we can find them.

This has been horrible news to our rescue group. We are all heart broken and sadden over the news. We never would have imagined anything so horrific would happen.  We will let you know when other developments occur.
